Election '08: Pet owners prefer...McCain?

I know this article is three months old and comes from the mainstream media, but as of July 8, No Tails with animal companions allegedly preferred John McCain to Barack Obama.

Huh. From the article:
"The American Pet Manufacturers Association estimates that 63 percent of American homes include a pet, including 88 million cats and 75 million dogs.

Both of these groups lean toward McCain: 43 percent to 34 percent for dog owners and 41 percent to 38 percent for cat owners.

While he doesn't currently have a pet, Obama has reportedly promised his daughters a dog once the campaign is over."

The article also mentions that McCain has several animals at home, which is news to me. His furry friends are Sam, an English Springer Spaniel, CoCo, a canine of mixed breeding heritage, two turtles, (Cuff and Link) one cat, Oreo, a ferret, two parakeets, and many saltwater fish.

McCain's animal family status begs a very serious question: Why does a man who likes animals enough to open his home to them, have, as we have observed, such a shitty record on animal rights? How does that happen? Simple hypocrisy? Arizona voters don't like animals? Campaign contributers hate my Four Legged brethren? I'll try to check it out and get back to you.

Incidentally, the American Kennel Club put a poll in the field asking what kind of dog the Obamas should get.  (The results?  Poodle.)
